About
Chuck Downs is an American artist known for combining reality with abstraction through black and white photography and layers of color. His work has been described as “evoking dreamlike textures and shapes.” Recent works incorporate alternative mounting methods, layering of panels and non-rectangular works.
Chuck started making art in his hometown, Jacksonville, Florida. He initially became interested in making art through his Dad who was also an artist. As a kid, he was fascinated watching his Dad effortlessly paint and sculpt.
In his mid-twenties he moved west to Boulder, Colorado where he attended the University of Colorado. After graduation he began his professional life as a graphic designer and artist.
